Background & Experience
Sheyla provides counselling at Thrive Family to adolescents and adults. She is experienced in supporting clients with issues relating to anxiety, ADHD, ASD and self-esteem, as well as interpersonal, parental and professional challenges, and unhelpful/unhealthy behaviours. She has previously supported children and adolescents at an international school in Singapore.
Sheyla is well versed in corporate culture and is ideally placed for working with corporate clients. As a working mother of 3 (and a dog) who previously held management roles at major retail businesses, Sheyla understands that finding the right balance in life can be hard and sometimes overwhelming. She enjoys helping individuals and families find solutions to difficult problems, form meaningful connections, and develop self-compassion. She practices in a calm, measured manner, with warmth and a touch of humour. The main approaches she deploys draw from CBT, ACT, and solution-focused therapies.
Having left her native Cuba as a teenager, Sheyla has lived and worked in France, Italy, the UK, Hong Kong, and now Singapore for the past 9 years. Her counselling career follows around 15 years working for retail businesses, prior to which she studied Drama & Theatre Studies as an undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is well placed to support expats, those working in corporate environments, third-culture children and adults, and people who are finding transitions hard. She speaks fluent English, Spanish and Italian, and conversational French.
