Background & Experience
In her previous role as a senior psychologist at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH; local public hospital), Henny’s expertise includes inpatient and outpatient care of children and adolescents with a broad range of presenting issues such as mood and anxiety disorders, self-harm and suicidal behaviours, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychosomatic disorders, and complex trauma. She was also part of the specialised and multidisciplinary Eating Disorder Service at KKH, with specific training and experience in treating children and adolescents with various types of eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).
In addition to overseeing the operations of the Adolescent Psychology Team at KKH as a co-leader, Henny has helped to develop and/or facilitate a variety of group therapy programs and workshops (e.g. dialectical behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, workshop for caregivers of children with eating disorders) and delivered talks on mental health related issues to other healthcare professionals. She also provided regular clinical supervision to psychologists-in-training as well as practising clinical psychologists.
Henny is trained in psychometric testing as well as a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including family-based treatment (FBT, Maudsley method) for eating disorders, cognitive behavioural-therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT). She also has a special interest in compassion-based therapies (e.g. compassion focused therapy (CFT), mindful self-compassion).
Henny’s intervention approach is one that is eclectic and she believes in tailoring therapy to best fit the needs of her clients by being flexible and creative in the integration of relevant psychological techniques and theories. She is committed to providing a safe space for clients in therapy to work through their difficulties collaboratively with warmth and curiosity. When engaging with children and adolescents, Henny believes in the importance of working closely with families and schools, while simultaneously empowering her clients to overcome various life challenges.
Having lived abroad in UK and Australia whilst pursuing her education and training, Henny also has first-hand experience and understands the challenges that come with adjusting to different countries and cultures. Henny is able to conduct therapy in both English and Mandarin.
