Chermain attained her Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and Masters in Clinical Psychology at University College London and the National University of Singapore, respectively. She is a full member of the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS) and the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA).

Background & Clinical Experience
Chermain has over a decade of experience working with various mental health conditions. She was previously the Deputy Head of the Mood Disorders Unit at the Institute of Mental Health, where she oversaw and spearheaded specialized clinical programs for treating mood, anxiety and interpersonal difficulties. She was also active in research, education, clinical supervision, and public health promotion.

Chermain has extensive experience working with individuals and groups. Her special interest is in empowering resilience and growth through person-centered approaches. Chermain develops a safe, secure therapeutic environment and collaboratively tailors a customized intervention for each of her clients. Where appropriate, she incorporates evidence-based treatments, such as, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and Mindfulness-based therapies.
For clients wishing to further their personal growth and find fulfillment in their interpersonal relationships, Chermain facilitates an Interpersonal Process Group, which helps client examine maladaptive interpersonal patterns and find healthier alternative ways of relating.
Other Professional Roles
An avid educator, Chermain has provided mental health education to healthcare, legal and corporate professionals as well as clinical trainees and the general public. She is currently an adjunct lecturer at the Nanyang Technological University and continues to provide clinical supervision to psychotherapists at the Institute of Mental Health. Chermain regularly presents at national and international scientific conferences and is the recipient of multiple scholarships and awards.
