Alex has presented and featured at local and international conferences held by the American Art Therapy Association (AATA) as well as the Digital International Creative Arts Therapies Symposium (DICATS), on contemporary developments within art psychotherapy.

Working with children

Alex has had a commitment to working with children and parents to support their development through evidence-based practices such as behaviour analysis, art, sand and play-based intervention. Alex has experience working with children presenting with anxiety, ADHD, sleeping and anger management challenges. Addressing emotional regulation, implementing coping strategies, and developing self-compassion. Alex works closely with the family unit to implement practical positive parenting tools to increase personal wellness and quality of life for the family system.

Working with adults

Alex works closely with clients from diverse backgrounds, appreciating the day to day challenges, overwhelm and anxieties of work, relationships and social life. He further has a special interest in working with marginalised groups faced with challenges in their sexuality, identity, gender and orientation. He develops a personalised treatment plan with clients, whilst making use of his training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Art Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Wellness Counselling.

Working with couples

Trained in IMAGO relationship counselling, Alex encourages a safe space for couples to explore and acknowledge conflict, rediscover connection and develop growth through their collective and personal processes. Developing practical take-home applications, tools and strategies aimed towards the couple’s goals.

Personal

In 2014, Alex opened his own private practice in South Africa. He then chose to diversify by studying for his masters in art psychotherapy in Singapore. He has a passion for vulnerable and marginalised communities, believing mental health care and compassion are rights for all.

Whilst in Singapore, Alex enjoys exploring different cultures, sampling the food and travel
